The scent of silence

The past week saw temperatures over 40 c all week and in the church carpark 48c. Here the heat is very dry and one becomes wet with perspiration on entering an air conditioned building. Moving through the heat feels like slow motion taking care with breathing and movement.

I'm struck by the intensity of the smells in the dry heat and the perfume of native plants purgent in the dry air. Then after rain and it's raining now a new rich purpose. Rain and heat also has a muffling sound for normal noise or maybe ones senses are drawn to the immediate.
